How to Shave Your Pubes: Manscaping Your Genitals

How to shave your balls

Modern-day men are becoming more and more conscious about their image and their grooming regimes. Over the past two decades it’s become far more common for men to shave their body hair, manscaping is now common place with 49% of guys claiming to shave their pubic hair off in any given month.

According to this study by the Journal of Sexual Medicine , almost exactly the same amount of men and women admitted to shaving their pubes.

It’s clear that shaving your genitals has become just as normal, and expected, for men as it has been for women.

Why Bother? Isn't it a Waste of Time?

For anyone that’s never shaved their genitals before it can seem like a risky process, a cut on your chin is fine but on your balls…

The reality is that it’s pretty much the same process that you’re accustomed to with you face, plus some extra care for sensitive spots.

Her reaction when she see's that you've shaved for the first time.

Shaving your penis and testicles can help to make you feel more confident, reduce odor and make ‘the tree look bigger’.

As with any hair, it can often harbor bacteria and yeast so it’s crucial that before you start manscaping you take precautions to reduce the bacteria and also to prevent any cuts which would allow it to enter your body.

How to Prepare to Shave Your Balls

The most effective primer for shaving any body part is to jump into the shower. You should wash your genitals thoroughly to ensure that they are clean. Using warm water and shampoo on your pubic hair will allow your pores to open up, allowing for a closer shave. The shampoo will also soften your pubic hair which will make shaving easier.

After you’ve finished showering you can either continue this process in the shower or not, if you do remain in the shower then be extra-careful. We would recommend that you stay in the shower but turn the water off for now.

Little disclaimer: You follow these instructions at your own risk, we won’t take any responsibility for any injuries that you incur. But, we will give you our deepest sympathies.

If you hadn’t shaved your facial hair for a month you’d make sure to pre-trim it first with a trimmer because a razor would just tug, it’s the same with your pubic hair. You should use an electric trimmer first to shorten your pubic hair to a length that a razor can handle.

Trimming Before Shaving

Unsure what trimmer to use? Try the Remington PG525 , it’s one of the cheaper trimmers available and shaves incredibly well. It also has a body-shaving attachment that will help with your genitals.

When you’re using the electric trimmer make sure to always use a guard. It doesn’t need to get down to skin-level yet, that’s what the razor is for. Work slowly with the hair to prevent any injury.

Once you’ve trimmed the hair down to a shorter length you’re ready to start shaving with a razor. At this point you might want to quickly jump in the shower and just rinse off any excess hair so that you can make shaving easier.

How to Shave Your Balls Safely with a Razor

When you’re shaving with a razor you’re going to want to ensure that you’re following the grain, that essentially means to shave with the direction that the hair is growing. For example; above the base of your penis the hair is growing toward the floor, so you’ll want to shave downwards in this area.

Unsure what razor to use ? We would recommend using a Gillette Venus 3, yes, that’s a women shaver. It’s also specifically designed to shave body hair and genitals.

When you’re shaving you should hold the razor in your dominant hand and with your other hand you should pull the skin tight on the area that you’re shaving. The skin around your genitals is particularly loose to allow for expansion when aroused, so ensure that it’s pulled tight to prevent injury. Before shaving make sure that you wash your hands with an anti-bacterial soap.

The Process to Shave Your Pubes

  1. You should start on the penis itself , shaving the hair that runs along the sides of the shaft.

  2. Once you are finished there you should move to the top of the base , the area closest to your stomach.

  3. Next, you should move onto the sides of the base , next to your legs. Once you have done these three areas the top portion of your genitals should now be cleanly shaven.

  4. The next step is to move onto shaving your balls themselves which is the most difficult part. This skin is particularly loose and so you should pull it very tight and use only tiny strokes of the razor. Don’t be tempted to speed up or use longer strokes, keep it short and sweet to prevent any cuts.

  5. Once your balls are done the final step is to clean up the edges to complete the full-shave.

Now that you’ve finished shaving you’ll want to shower to clean up. At the end of your shower you should use cold water to tighten the skin and close your pores up. Make sure to wash thoroughly with a soap.

When you’re drying off resist the urge to rub that area, instead, you should dab it with a towel to dry it as gently as possible. If you have a post-shave balm or genital powder then this would be a good time to use it.

That’s it, you’re clean shaven and ready to impress.
