How to Stop Excessive Sweating

How to stop sweating so much

Sweating is normal, but if you’re sweating excessively without doing an exercise and even when it’s cool, it can become a problem.

It’s less of a health problem and more of an etiquette problem, nobody wants to have sweat stains on their shirt at 10am in the morning or have to shake hands with wet palms.

Excessive sweating is known medically as hyperhidrosis , as in, lots of water production. It affects around five percent of the world and so you’re in good, but sweaty, company.

This condition normally means that your sweating isn’t limited to just your underarms, but also other areas where you have a high density of sweat glands for example; your back, face and groin.

Whilst you often can’t change the temperature or the humidity, there are things that you can do to improve your situation. Excessive sweating is something I’ve dealt with personally and so I know the embarrassment you might feel.

Don’t worry, help is at hand and there are ways you can reduce the effects.

Antiperspirants

Don’t dismiss this too quickly. If you’re using a standard deodorant then you should switch over to an antiperspirant straight away.

Deodorant is just there to mask an odor, whereas an antiperspirant has ingredients that plug the sweat glands and actually prevent your body from producing as much sweat.

However, if this doesn’t do the trick then you might need to upgrade to a stronger antiperspirant. If you’re experience serious sweating then you’ll need to head to your doctor and get a prescription for a clinical strength antiperspirant.

These are far stronger than what you can buy in stores and have cured many men of excessive sweating.

Avoid spicy foods and caffeine

If you haven’t been diagnosed with hyperhidrosis, there’s a chance that you are just sweaty, rather than having a medical condition.

If this is the case then you might need to make some changes to your lifestyle.

Spicy foods and caffeine are known to activate neurotransmitters in your brain, which when stimulated can affect the glands that produce sweat.

It turns out that curry sweats are based in science!

Look for medical assistance

Again, going to your doctor is the best advice here. They have a range of treatments that have been scientifically proven to have beneficial results in the majority of patients.

One such treatment is iontophoresis, this is a machine which you place your hands or feet in, it’s filled with a little water and electric current is passed through.

This current stimulated the sweat glands and helps to reduce the sweat production.

Conclusion: How to stop excessive sweating

Firstly, try not to worry too much about it. There’s a good chance that you’re not in the small percentage who has hyperhidrosis and in which case, you’re likely worrying about nothing.

However, if your excessive sweating is making you uncomfortable or causing irritation, go to your doctor and ask for them to run a test to see if you have this condition.

Thousands of men are able to control their symptoms and live a life free of sweat. Don’t feel down about it, it’s a normal condition that affects many of us. Go to your doctor and see what they can do for you.
